Some people think that happiness is irrelevant to personal development, but it seems to me a beautiful blossoming you can enjoy 'through' personal growth.
There is a popular quote saying 'that if you seek happiness you'll never find it'. True perhaps if you are looking for a particular event or situation with a big ribbon and sign that says "This is Happiness". However, if you want something, then of course part of what you do will be to seek it. Understand that what you are truly seeking are the conditions, components, and environment where it thrives. When you discover these and put them into practice, you can expect to meet with positive results. So, just as you might seek peace of mind, or success, or love... discover the foundations supporting each and then you can build that into your own life.
Research supports the idea that happiness arises through holisitc and healthy development in certain areas of your life.

The 'Happiness and It's Causes Conference' that I attended in June was brilliant. It certainly drove home the fact that there is no secret to happiness. Information ranging from 'fuzzy feel good', to hard scientific findings illustrate that if you develop particular areas of your life, you are much more likely to be happy.
I met and spoke with two of the presenters, Matthieu Ricard and Roko Belic, and fully recommend their work to expand the picture of happiness in your life.

Whiz through the quick happiness quiz I put together based on 5 areas of life that are recognized to correlate with being happy. The quiz gives you the opportunity to reflect on where you might want to focus more attention for your own development, and where you have the happiness formula down pat and can perhaps share what you know with others!
Note the question about your financial situation... It's not so much about how much money you have in the bank, but rather how you 'perceive' your credit or debit status.

- Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves.
Helen Keller
- The fountain of content must spring up in the mind, and he who hath so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition, will waste his life in fruitless efforts and multiply the grief he proposes to remove.
Samuel Johnson
- Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one's values.
Ayn Rand
- The kindest thing you can do for the people you care about is to become a happy, joyous person.
Brian Tracy
- The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions.
Alfred Lord Tennyson
