Holistic Personal Development and the
Theory of Evolution

How does holistic personal development relate to the 'Theory of Evolution'?

Darwin's theory of evolution has been impacting the understanding and development of our society and culture for the past 150 years.

Bruce Lipton, an eminent modern day biologist, writes cutting edge books on mind-body connection and human evolution (Download and listen to one of Bruce Liptons books for only $7.49 today). Bruce pointed out in his recent work Spontaneous Evolution that there is an important distinction to make among two primary principles in Darwin's work:

  • survival of the fittest, and
  • failing of the weakest
This distinction sheds relevant light for our better understanding of holistic personal development in all spheres: mental, physical, financial, emotional and personal spiritual growth.

The promotion of the idea that life moves forward based on 'survival of the fittest' basically means that in order to get ahead you have to be the strongest. This belief can drive people to walk over others in order to succeed. After all, they are told, if you aren't first, you are history.

Well the truth is that you don't have to be #1 to get ahead... not in your professional, nor in your holistic personal development. If you look at real life examples, you see the blatant reality is not that the absolute strongest are necessarily the only ones getting ahead, but... it is likely that the absolute weakest are the first to die.

You’ve seen the television shows of lions hunting in Africa, right? That's a perfect example of reality. Whenever possible, the lions go after the little weak animals in the herds they are hunting. So you don't have to be the absolute strongest to survive and get ahead. The majority of the animals from the herd that the lions are preying on continue on with their healthy lives.

Let's take another example. This one is right under our noses in the world economic crisis late 2008 and 2009. A lot of companies have fallen during this downturn. The companies that have sunk have been the least robust. Some big, some small, but all... unhealthy. It again exemplifies the reality of the theory... the weakest are the first to fall. (It also begs the question, are the massive cash injections to society merely a morphine injection to the unhealthy that will only make the pain go away momentarily?)

Lesson number one for self development: Cultivate health and well being in order to enhance your success in life.

Seen any dinosaurs lately?

You might be thinking, dinosaurs are extinct so how can there be any to see? And how does this relate to the theory of evolution?

Yes, dinosaurs have become extinct. There are a number of different theories on HOW that happened, but all the various theories are in agreement on WHY it happened. Dinosaurs are unable to adapt to their environment. Their inability to adapt makes them weak and vulnerable.

New breeds of modern day dinosaurs do occasionally appear (individuals, companies, organizations, governments, etc). It doesn't matter what breed it is, if it's a dinosaur, it will soon fall and become extinct.

It can be very difficult to recognize a dinosaur before it falls, but there are a few tell tale signs. The key is to look for the two primary symptoms that dinosaurs exhibit. If you recognize these symptoms anywhere in your vicinity, you may be in danger!

  1. They don’t look and learn to see what needs to be done to sustain themselves, their lifestyle, community and environment
  2. They don't adapt and integrate health promoting change into their lives

Dinosaurs remain ignorant to signs of the times, and inflexible in their ability to react. No matter how big and daunting they may appear, they are vulnerable to extinction.

Lesson number two for holistic personal development: Monitor and encourage your own eagerness to learn, adapt, and change in life supporting ways.

Cultivate Your Healthy Self Development

To encourage your own holistic personal development, ask yourself if you are incorporating Lessons number one and two in your life. How can you better apply them in every sphere: mental, physical, financial, emotional and personal spiritual growth?

**By the way...
Do you know why dinosaurs don’t worry about changing light bulbs? Because they always leave before the lights go out. :)
