Tied Up On My Thirtieth Birthday
By Susan Minnesota
Last week was my thirtieth birthday, A Monday of blustery snow. The thought of leaving my twenties, Made me feel terribly low.
Though I'm attractive and healthy, With hubby and kids I adore. Hovers an ominous feeling, I've never been thirty before.
Kisses and breakfast are boosters, Time now for work and for school. Alone I am off for some jogging, My favorite way to refuel.
Returning I'm shocked to discover, A burglar is in our abode. Panic has quickly consumed me, My day is about to erode.
Things could have been worse I consider, He left me unhurt, scared but sound. But now on the floor of a closet, I sit in the dark tightly bound.
My wrists are behind me and aching, Tied to my ankles with rope. A gag fills my mouth I can't holler, How am I going to cope?
I struggle like heck for an hour, I twist and I yank and I strain. And then that discouraging moment, I realize my effort's in vain.
So now I must face my dilemma, Bound up and gagged I must wait. Perhaps reaching age number thirty, Is not such a terrible fate.
At last comes the music I've prayed for, My daughter is home for the day. I "mmphff" just as loud as I'm able, To summon her quickly my way.
Oh, all the wonders I'm blessed with, A life that is lustrous and whole. Two wonderful. wonderful daughters, And a husband I love with my soul.
I thought quite a bit in that closet, My faith and my hope never lagged. I realized I'd so much to value, While sitting there bound up and gagged.
Thank you Susan for sharing your inspirational poem. It really is a wake up call for all of us to remember what's really important and to be grateful for all the simple abundance in our lives.
I bet you will always be so thankful on each and every one of your birthdays in the future... no matter how old you are! (and I can assure you too... getting older is pretty darn good! :)
