Passport To a Better World
by Robert K. Bartoo
(Buffalo, N.Y.)
It all started many years ago, when I found out how much little things mean to people.
I don't know if it was my membership in the cub scouts or not but one day as I was walking home from school, I noticed an older lady tapping the broken side walk with her cane.
Construction crews had torn up the sidewalk and street, leaving gaping holes and jagged piles of broken concrete.
I held my breath as the woman teetered on the very edge of the sidewalk, it was broken up and dug into, making a gigantic hole that the woman would fall into if she took another step.
As she searched frantically with her cane for the right place to walk.
I raced across the street and gently grabbed her arm and said, "Don't worry I'll help you."
I'll never forget how thankful she was and how good that little act made me feel.
As I grew older I made it a point to notice all the good deeds others were doing and how who ever gave the good deed very seldom got any thanks.
I found this very upsetting when someone did a good deed for me and I never had a chance to properly thank them.
So I had a card printed up that I carried with me not only to thank others for their good deeds but to give to over worked and stressed out workers like Waitresses, Waiters and Sales Clerks who deserved a pat on the back.
This is what I had printed on the card:
Thank you for being who you are
a beautiful, warm, thoughtful
human being
you shine like a beacon of
hope
in a world of murky
darkness and despair
I will never forget this day
May you walk in peace
find love and compassion
and receive as much as you
have given
Robert K. BartooAs the years went by I improved on the card and thought, why not let other people have there own card and with the internet, people all around the world could take part and this really got me excited, so a new version of that old card was created with many new perspectives and a
Passport To a Better World was born and the
Disciples of Love Center was founded.
This was a labor of love and as such, there would be no advertising any where. Everything would be given away, 100% free.
The Passport had to be inspirational and moving,
using unconditional love as its vehicle, it had 3 main goals:
- To help people do good things for themselves and others.
- To help bring people together to better understand each other and our problems.
- To make this world a better place for all of us to live in.
Things were going great, I was building websites and really getting into it when I noticed that I had a hard time controlling my left hand as it trembled and it became almost impossible to use my fingers. Shortly after that I was told that I had Parkinson's Disease which has no cure at this time.
I don't know how this news is supposed to make me feel but it's only made me more determined to finish what I've started.
