Power to Change by Marianne Williamson delves into where real power comes from, how to access it, and what it entails.

Williamson outlines the folly of man in falsely believing that power lays in man, or in the world. She compares worldly power to the wings of a sparrow. Rather, she explains, true power is from the creative which comparatively offers us the wings of an eagle. Accessing true power is much more a spiritual endeavor in this way.


She explains that to access real power of change requires more than your eyes and ears. Although your outer eyes and ears experience the exterior world, it's inner vision that tells of the inner world and all that it offers. She recommends starting each day with meditation getting clear on the source of power, and your intention going out into the world.

Marianne Williamson overviews 12 aspects of the power of change. It is to these we should be looking to solve the problems of the world, rather than looking for worldly solutions of might and rule:

• Love
• Power

• Imagination

• Zeal
• Renunciation
• Understanding
• Life

She is quick to state that true mystical power is understanding and awareness of the world and spirit... it is NOT control of everything in the world and spirit. The universe is about the growth of souls and the opening of hearts rather than manifestations in the physical realm.

This work by Williamson delves into many further traits of the power to change. A few of my favorites include:

• Nothing is ever as it appears to be... Neither is an apparent failure necessarily so, nor a success... there is power in both.
• Life and all the power within it operates on cycles... the biblical story of Christ's death and resurrection speak of this cycle. There is growth in spirit, blossoming, trials and crucifixion and death, and resurrection. This is experienced in life when you feel you are on a roll and everything is going brilliantly, and then difficulties come and you have to endure them and you will sooner or later come out the other side to growth again and easier times.
• Universal life laws operate the same in all spheres of life... spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical.
