Perfect And Simple Gifts

Perfect gifts can just as well be simple gifts.

You know that great feeling you have when you’ve just received a wonderful gift? It is exactly the right thing… it’s the right color and texture. It resonates with you and matches your life perfectly. Such ideal gifts may well be simple gifts from the heart.

Simple Gifts

I remember receiving one of those. It wasn’t a big lavish and expensive gift. It was a simple and thoughtful gift. It was from my late husband (although he wasn’t late at the time... he was very attentive :). He and I had a wonderful relationship by and large. We had pretty much put one another on a pedestal. At the same time, like so many other relationships, we also had our emotional bumps and bruises... occasional misunderstandings, miscommunications and unfulfilled expectations. Yet we both knew that by working together and supporting one another, our relationship would continue to grow and be even better.

One day, it was a typical day in a typical week, and there was a knock at the front door. I opened the door and a delivery boy was standing holding a beautiful bouquet of red roses for me.

There was a note attached, with just a few simple words written on it. It was perfect. The note said: “just because…. I love you”. He was lovingly giving feedback and supporting me for who I was. I didn’t need to change... he wanted me to be me... the best of me.

How do you think that made me feel? Certainly acknowledged, appreciated and respected. It made me want to be the person that deserved the sentiments in that gift. It made me want to do more of the good things I knew I did well in our relationship. And it made me feel appreciation for him, his effort, his care and thoughtfulness.

I’m sure you can recall those feelings from a time that you have received an ideal gift. And it’s much the same feeling when we give a gift that is perfectly suited to someone. It’s a feeling of connection, of understanding one another, of helping, of appreciation, of meeting the needs of one another in a very pleasant and welcoming way.

Wrapping Up Powerful And Simple Gifts

  • Kind and caring words are one of the simplest and most meaningful gifts we can give. Have fun with this, and send inspirational greeting cards to friends and family, letting them know you are thinking of them.
  • Research on positive reinforcement confirms that encouraging language is recognized as a valuable gift by people receiving feedback.
  • Using metaphorical and sensory language enhances the power of these simple gifts, transporting them from your heart to the heart of the recipient. Review some metaphor examples and practice making your language more colorful.
