Cultivate Valuable Leadership Characteristics
Lionel J Boxer PhD, Leadership Book Author
Offering inspiration and guidance is central to leadership. When it comes to issues like sustainability - that are often obligatory and externally imposed and not at all part of the core undertaking of an organisation - there are additional challenges to leading yourself and others.
The Sustainable Way presents a framework to articulate this message. The framework, consisting of four components:
(1) rights;
(2) duties;
(3) moral order;
(4) action;
... is used to align the underlying mood (or perhaps culture) with the issues at hand.
The Sustainable Way explores how people may perceive their rights to confound necessary steps to deal with issues, and presents an approach to correct those misperceptions. With rights appropriately defined and understood, people are better positioned to appreciate their duties. Creating a moral order that encompasses these rights and duties is then discussed. Finally, the responsibility of leaders to act in a way that reinforces the rights, duties and moral order is explored. Thus, by adjusting these components, the underlying mood can be calibrated to the requirements of the team so that the issues at hand are dealt with appropriately.
This framework is presented in short story that leads the reader through what they need to do to create their team in The Sustainable Way. It has been written with the busy person in mind, packed with some great practical leadership ideas in about 100 pages.
The leadership book is currently in use in small businesses as well as major corporations and is available in libraries around the world. It makes a great gift to an aspiring leader as well as a mature leader who may need some hints to better apply their influence and engage others. The book can be viewed at: The Sustainable Way
