Written for Christopher, in 1994

by Wanda
(Australia)

When he looked at the spot on the window
he saw,
a horse who had wings
who hadn't been there before.
So he ushered her in, to see what he saw.
His mother he knew, would want to see too...
But she looked down in scorn, as she wiped it away.
She told him blankly, 'Son go out and play".

It was hard to disguise all the tears in his eyes,
he remembered they told him
'Big boys don't cry' even at the death of a friend
who has wings and can fly.

He grew up as expected, and he left behind,
the need for a horse who has wings and can fly.
As he grew wiser he learned,
of the child inside, who still needs the horse,
who has wings and can fly.

One morning he looked out the window and saw
the horse who has wings,
had come back once more...

The horse on the window,
who has wings, and can fly!

Thank you for sharing this lovely inspirational poem. It speaks to me of the importance and beauty of imagination, hopes and dreams. And a wonderful reminder to keep my eyes (and heart:) open to see flying horses winging through my life!
